When you watch athletes cycle between a blazing sauna and an icy tub, it looks extreme. But underneath the social media theater lies a fascinating and heavily researched physiological mechanism.

Here is how contrast therapy works, what the science actually supports, and a critical caveat if your primary goal is building muscle.

1. How It Works: The "Vascular Pump"
