    Healthy Recipe For Weight Loss: Gluten Free, Low Carb Pizza

    You wouldn’t normally associate pizza as a healthy recipe for weight loss however this gluten free, low carb pizza base is a perfect healthy recipe for weight loss for when you feel like something that is not quite “kosher”. Normal pizza bases are are high in carbs that spike your blood sugar and insulin, are full of gluten and usually leave you feeling heavy and bloated after.

    So in order to make this a healthy recipe for weight loss, I had to find a replacement for our traditional wheat and gluten based flour. Enter Sunflower seeds. I stumbled across sunflower seeds a few weeks ago when trying to find an alternative to almond meal. Sunflower seeds contain only 2g of carbs per 30g serve which equates to about 5g of carbs per pizza which is nothing. Sunflower seeds also don’t leave you with the bloated after affects that a normal pizza base will. This pizza base is perfect healthy recipe for weight loss.

    Serves: 2
    Preparation time: 10 minutes
    Cooking time: 15 minutes

    Ingredients for base:
    1 cup of sunflower seeds – blended into flour
    1 tsp of baking powder
    1 tbs flaxseed meal
    1 tsp of salt
    1 tbs of dried Italian herbs
    2 eggs whisked
    2 tbs olive oil

    For topping – all desired amounts
    Shaved leg ham
    Pitted Kalamatta olives
    Tomato paste
    Baby spinach leaves
    Buffalo mozzarella cheese

    Method:

    – Pre-heat oven grill
    – Crack 2 eggs into a bowl and whisk
    – Blend sunflower seeds into flower and pour into bowl
    – Add flaxseed meal, baking powder and salt
    – Add olive oil – stir well
    – add extra olive oil if ingredients are still dry
    – Take a large frying pan and line with baking paper
    – Spoon mixture into pan and spread out to make a thin base
    – Turn gas onto a very low heat so that base won’t burn
    – When the base is cooked, carefully flip the base over
    – When the other side is cooked take off the pan and place onto a plate or chopping board
    – If making 2 pizza’s repeat the above process again then,
    – Spread tomato paste onto base then add remaining ingredients
    – Place under grill until mozzarella cheese is melted
